Appeal for Panvel Center

A few months back the Panvel Nagar Parishad brought out an advrt. for their stray dog steralization programme. Curious, I made inquires, and was disturbed when I came to know that certain persons of doubtful intentions, were applying for the contract. In Defence Of Animals India, applied for this contract. The reason was very simple. We believe that being pro-active and righting the wrongs against our defenseless animals was the need of the hour, rather than moaning about it. We felt, it was time that the good also became strong and courageous.

We got the contract against great odds, let me tell you..We were then told that we had to 'take away' the dogs to operate them, as they had no place. On being informed that it was mandatory to provide place within the corporation limits for this purpose, we were told that another organisation was willing to do it at their place....in Ahmednagar in Marathwada district of Maharashtra, a good 6 hours away! We explained to them the sheer unfeasibility of this, and they have now reluctantly offered us the 'place' in the pictures attached...thats the best they can do they say...( you can see the mumbai pune expressway in the background of pic 137) Check the pics for yourself, and come to your own conclusions. We have been given not even 15 days to do what we want to this place and start work! If we dont..well...this contract is for 11 months, and if we work well, we will continue. If we cant raise the money for arranging the basics in this place...then they give it to the org. mentioned above.(the very minimum , including the electric connection which will cost us an extra Rs.11,000/- is approx. Rs. 1 lakh.They are paying us Rs.550/- per dog steralized, including the catching,releasing, steralizing and stay and care for 6 days, which just about covers the cost ) . Yes, to some this may sound unreasonable, impractical and very flawed, to us it seems the only way out.

The only way we can prove our point. That its time we all stand up IN DEFENCE OF ANIMALS, no matter what! We are appealing to you, not to bail us out, but to help us bail out the helpless,mute cretures of Panvel, who will otherwise face an uncertain future...
