Ida India : Helping the Old and the Blind

The most fragile and precious residents at our Deonar Centre, are our old blind dogs.  They have been rescued and brought in from all parts of the city as they are truly helpless on the mean streets of Mumbai.

Amazingly, sometimes, these dogs don't have to be rescued as they have good care-takers watching over them at all times, seeing to their every need.  But of course, the majority of these helpless animals need to be rescued and admitted for their own safety.  They need extra special care and medical treatment for their age related ailments that most of them suffer from.

Every day our Vet goes into the enclosure to check each dog and see that everything is okay.  Their eye-sight can never be restored, but they can be kept comfortable, healthy and well-fed and for these dogs, we try our best to see that this is so.

As in so many areas of our efforts with special needs animals, we need serious and meaningful help from the public for these dogs specially.  They have lived hard lives on the street, managed to actually grow old in the most hostile and dangerous of environments and now they are blind.  They need a helping hand at this difficult stage of their lives and we need you to help us help them.

We have created a special programme for these sweet old dogs. Each one of them needs a special Guardian Angel and if you choose to be that very special person, you can show your love and concern for your very own blind dog by paying Rs.10,000/- a year for his or her care, treatment and welfare.

So if you would like to become a Guardian Angel to any one of our blind senior canines, do call 9320056587 or email info@idaindia.org for further details and we will take it from there.  You will be doing something really wonderful and you will be blessed.  Here are six of our blind dogs - the total number we care for at present, comes to thirty.  Do try to help.
